First Look: Boyle Heights' $22M Mixed-Use Cielito Lindo
New renderings are out for a $22M mixed-use proposal across the street from the Gold Line Station at Soto in Boyle Heights. Cielito Lindo, as the 50-unit affordable housing project at 2407-2419 E 1st St, would include 5k SF of retail and an 8,500 SF office on the top floor for developer East LA Community Corp, reports Urbanize LA. Designed by Gonzales Goodale Architects, the project would be energy efficient, employing a solar hot water system and a cool roof.
The project is just the latest in a spate of new development proposals that could help gentrify the area, though locals have been hesitant. Residents were against a $49M proposal from Metro to build 120k SF of retail and medical office surrounding Mariachi Plaza (above). Metro has since abandoned the proposal and plans to start over. In addition, permits have been filed with the city for an 81-room hotel on Soto near the 10 Freeway. Details on the proposal are extremely limited, but include that it would be above parking and likely low-rise.
