Redondo Beach City Council Temporarily Puts The Brakes On Mixed-Use

Redondo Beach may have fewer mixed-use projects in the years to come after the Redondo Beach City Council voted to temporarily ban most of them.

The 45-day moratorium was approved Tuesday. The city council could vote on whether to extend the moratorium for up to two years at its Sept. 19 meeting.

The unanimous vote comes after opposition from residents mostly concerned that the residential component of new projects would make the city too crowded and place a burden on local schools as a result, the Daily Breeze reports.

The pending redevelopment of the South Bay Galleria is exempt from the moratorium because it is under the regional commercial zone.

That type of zoning may be under consideration to be added to the moratorium at a later meeting.
