Wilshire Grand Officially Becomes Tallest Building In The West
The last piece of the steel spire was placed on top of the Wilshire Grand over Labor Day weekend by construction workers.
As a result, the DTLA skyscraper is now the tallest building in the city—and the tallest west of the Mississippi.
Standing at 73 stories tall, the Wilshire Grand's roof also will have an open-air pool and an observation deck.
The steel spire measures nearly 295 feet and has a top piece consisting of an LED beacon that will be programmed and lit up for holidays and special events, according to Curbed.
It is the first skyscraper with a pointed roof built downtown in more than 40 years.
The city had previously required new buildings have helipads on top. [Curbed]
