Legacy Partners, Invesco Win Key Approval For Project Replacing Chargers' Training Field
Legacy Partners and Invesco scored a victory for their residential and retail development in Costa Mesa that would replace the Los Angeles Chargers' training facility.
The city voted to start the process to change the zoning for the 14.25-acre site from industrial to residential, paving the way for the project to continue.
The developers' plan for the development at 3333 Susan St. is to build out in three phases, the Orange County Register reported. The project as planned will have 1,050 apartments across three buildings.
The project site is opposite the Costa Mesa Ikea and is now home to the Hive, an office complex that is home to the Chargers' training facility as well as businesses and restaurants.
The plan to redevelop the site goes back at least to 2021. At that time, it was reported that the Chargers' lease for the training field was slated to expire in 2027. The Chargers are building a new, 14-acre headquarters and training facility that is expected to open next year.
Invesco co-owns the former Los Angeles Times printing plant in Costa Mesa that has been converted into creative office space. In 2021, defense company Anduril signed a 640K SF lease at the space.
