New Apartment Project May Come To Pasadena
Pasadena's 44-year-old Panda Inn is undergoing a reno that is part of a proposal to build 258 apartments on the site.
Panda Inn's management wants to keep the restaurant, which is at 3488 East Foothill Blvd., even though the Pasadena planning department has said it needs to be demolished to make way for the project, the LA Daily News reports. The restaurant could close for a few months while construction takes place. There has been no timeline set for the project yet.
There is a chance the Panda Inn could still be torn down as part of the design proposal for the development, which includes 8,140 SF set aside for the restaurant.
Panda Inn is owned by the Cherng family, the same family that owns Panda Express and the Japanese grill Hibachi-San.
Chef Ming-Tsai Cherng, and his son, Andrew, opened the first Panda Inn 44 years ago. Andrew Cherng opened Panda Express' first location in Glendale.
The Panda Restaurant Group's headquarters is in Rosemead.
