Burbank’s Pickwick Gardens, a family-owned property that has been in the city since the 1950s, could be torn down to make way for a major multifamily project.

The 8.5-acre complex is home to a bowling alley, ice skating rink and event venue.

The Stavert family, along with Shea Properties, presented the proposed plans for the property at a Sept. 14 public meeting, the LA Weekly reports.

Pickwick Gardens, at the corner of Riverside Drive and Main Street across the street from the LA Equestrian Center, has been struggling financially in recent years, according to the family.

The development would include a few hundred apartments and townhomes plus a four-story parking garage.

The nearby Viva Cantina would also be torn down, though its business is thriving.

Some area residents are not too keen on the plans. An online petition against the development was launched soon after the meeting and more than 10,000 signatures were gathered in less than 72 hours.
