Trouble Brewing For Highland Park Development
Plans to build 80 condos and apartments on public parking lots near the Highland Park Gold Line station have hit a snag.
The LA City Council voted this week to suspend previous approvals and permits for the project until McCormack Baron Salazar addresses reservations raised by critics who filed a lawsuit against the proposed development.
The project would include a 10-unit multifamily building for residents with low and moderate incomes, a 50-unit residential building and a 20-unit condo complex between Avenue 56 and Avenue 59.
While city officials previously approved it, they failed to conduct a thorough review of the ramifications of the project on the neighborhood, according to Eastsider LA.
The opposition group, Friends of Highland Park, cites traffic concerns and sued, saying no complete environmental impact review was conducted.
The court did not reject the City of LA's decision to allow McCormack Baron Salazar to build a project larger than current zoning laws allow, according to an official with the LA Planning Department.
