The Forum Files Lawsuit Against The City Of Inglewood
Madison Square Garden Co., which owns the Forum, has officially filed a lawsuit against Inglewood.
The suit claims the city did not release public records regarding the exclusive-negotiating agreement with the LA Clippers for a new arena there, the Daily Breeze reports.
Latham & Watkins, which is repping Madison Square Garden Co., filed a Public Records Act request for all documents related to the agreement.
Madison Square Garden Co. argues Inglewood violated the state constitution when it suddenly approved exclusive talks last month with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer for an arena near the Forum.
As part of the deal, there could be up to three years of negotiations with Ballmer for a possible 20,000-seat arena. It would be secured by paying Inglewood $1.5M.
Ballmer wants to move the NBA team from Staples Center.
Madison Square Garden Co. officials say they had been promised by Inglewood Mayor James Butts that there would not be a competing business so close to the Forum and returned the lease to Inglewood as a result.
The Inglewoood City Council called a special meeting late last week to take another look at its June approval of the exclusive-negotiating agreement.
