Greek Theatre Battle Back to Square One
It was just a few weeks ago that we told you Live Nation's plans to take over the Greek Theatre were looking grim. After a closed session, the LA City Council also voted against Live Nation this week, Curbed reports. But this fight isn't over, as the site also is reporting city attorney Mike Feuer had warned them this morning the council doesn't have the authority to overturn the original decision from the recommendation from the Department of Parks and Recreation. So now what? Well, it's back to square one, as the council wants the whole thing to start over with new proposals from all parties. Above, Live Nation's vision for the venue.
The theater has been run by Nederlander for nearly 40 years. Entertainment juggernaut AEG is seeking to partner with Nederlander for the future of the venue, but Live Nation promises to invest more than twice as much in capital improvements as Nederlander. The current contract for the venue runs through October.
