Inglewood Stadium Moving Forward

Stan Kroenke's plan to bring an NFL stadium to Inglewood is moving forward, with the proposal receiving more than 20,000 signatures in support.

The count is more than double what's necessary to get a measure on the ballot for rezoning Hollywood Park, the LA Times reports. This comes less than a month after Stan, owner of the St. Louis Rams, announced his partnership with Stockbridge Capital Group, which owns the 238-acre Hollywood Park site. The proposal includes an 80,000-seat stadium and performance venue. Stan bought the 60-acre parcel last year, which led many to speculate the NFL was coming back to LA.

Though the proposal could now be voted on in the next six months, there are a number of hurdles for Stan. First is St. Louis, which has unveiled a pitch of its own to keep the hometown team. The $900M proposal, spearheaded by a team created by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon would run 60 acres along the Mississippi River. The venue would also be capable of housing an MLS soccer franchise.

Locally, this is of course only the latest flirtation between LA and the NFL. Anschutz Entertainment has approval for its Farmers Field next to Staples Center, and Ed Roski (LA's wealthiest real estate mogul) has approval for a stadium in City of Industry. And just last month, there was talk of Carson as a potential landing spot, where league officials were reportedly checking out the 172-acre Victoria Park. The Times reports County officials will now verify the signatures and then would go before the Inglewood City Council.
