Mariachi Proposal Defeated

Placeholder

We told you last week about Metro's plans to build 120k SF of retail and medical office surrounding Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights. Well, that isn't going to happen, after locals opposed the $49M project, the LA Times reports. The project, which would have called for an eight-story building with two levels of medical office in addition to six levels of parking, was going to gentrify the area, which dates back to 1889, when mariachis hung out outside a donut shop near the old Boyle Hotel. The Times reports more than 200 showed up at a meeting last week to fight the proposal, which will now be headed back to the drawing board.
