Addressing The Ever-Changing Workplace
The workplace is evolving and changing as we know it, according to Lendlease director of workplace strategies Kay Sargent.
Today's office centers around people and their well-being, Kay told the more than 250 industry professionals at Bisnow’s Los Angeles Annual Office Forum.
Kay’s lively presentation, which elicited intermittent laughter and audience participation, focused on the people factor.
She said the currency of business today is people.
Real estate is cheap compared to people, since 80% of corporate spending is going to employees, according to Kay. At the same time, 70% of the workforce feels stressed, according to current statistics, Kay said.
People can’t turn off being "overstressed," she said.
People are sitting at their desks for increasingly longer periods of time, Kay said.
Statistics show the average person stands for less than an hour a day. She said exercising before going into the office is even negated given the fact people are generally sitting for the rest of the workday.
She said workplaces need to be focused on “continual movement and motion.”
Employers also need to start addressing the whole person since well-being is more than just physical health, according to Kay.
