Bisnow SoCal Leaders Spend Night On Street For A Cause
Two of Bisnow's SoCal leaders will be spending the night on the streets of Hollywood as part of this year's Sleep Out event Sept. 29 to raise awareness about homelessness and money for Covenant House.
Covenant House helps a part of society that tends to be ignored the most—the homeless population, says Bisnow SoCal business manager Abigale James. The organization provides shelter, counseling, job training and rehabilitation for homeless youth.
Abigale volunteered with Covenant House in Philadelphia and has participated in Sleep Out events there. The experience was eye-opening. "It is a reminder of the difficulties and hardship facing the homeless," she says. "A night of solidarity brings a new perspective, and getting outside of your comfort zone is an amazing thing."
Abigale says she hopes this year's event will bring together as many people as possible to bring attention to the problem while raising money for Covenant House.
This is the third year a group of real estate execs will be sleeping outside in three cities. Last year, the event raised more than $300k. Participants not only raise money and awareness, but also have a chance to visit with the kids supported by Covenant House.
Bisnow SoCal manager Kyle Nicholes will be participating in Sleep Out for the first time this year, and he's excited to be involved. Kyle has worked with kids most of his adult life, including coaching football and basketball for more than eight years.
"I think this is a great cause and feel blessed to be a part of it," he says. "My hope is to bring awareness to this issue that is a growing problem nationwide and to help raise money that could eventually help our youth get off the streets."
