Metro’s New Vision for Union Station
Metro has released a new video showcasing the transformative makeover planned for the historic Union Station. The project is aimed at improving passenger experience and to help prepare for California’s new high-speed rail.
The master plan celebrates Union Station’s rich history, and the animated video shows an updated vision of changes coming to the Downtown LA landmark. Aerial views offer a phase by phase look at changes that include infrastructure upgrades that allow trains to enter the station from two directions and a transit-oriented development, which is further down the line.
The project recently got $12.3M in state grants to make pedestrian- and biker-focused improvements in and around the station, including wider sidewalks and a bike hub that provides secure parking, retail sales, bike repairs and rentals. The funding will also create improved crossings along Alameda Street and a new pedestrian plaza on the site now occupied by a parking lot.
