Carson Could Build A Mall On Former NFL Stadium Site
Carson may have lost its bid for an NFL stadium to Inglewood, but the city still plans to make use of the former landfill site where it had hoped to build the stadium. It may instead be turned into an outlet mall.
The Carson City Council voted unanimously last week to begin negotiations with Santa Monica's Macerich Real Estate Co.
They may agree to build the Fashion Outlets of LA on the 157-acre site.
The mall would be 500k SF with 150 high-end stores, according to the LA Daily News.
As part of the proposal, Macerich has agreed to pay a $1M fee to fund the necessary documents required for the land to trade hands. Around $250k of it would go toward Carson's community nonprofit fund.
The company also promised to pay Carson a $1M sales-tax advance in four months.
Carson could get $4M a year in revenue from sales taxes if the mall is built.
Macerich has invested about $2M so far to conduct studies of the landfill site. [LADN]
