Keep On Truckin' As Stobart Tries Again In Warrington
Trucking giant Eddie Stobart is to make a second attempt to build a new Warrington distribution hub.
The Cumbria-based haulier plans for a £75M distribution hub next to their existing 145K SF facility at Junction 9 of the M56. The proposals, backed by Liberty Properties, were turned down by local councillors in November. The decision, based on protecting green belt land, was cheered from the public gallery. At the time Stobart threatened to look elsewhere in the region.
Now the 630K SF plan is being revived, North West Business Insider reports.
The plan is for the same location but Stobart now believes it can convince councillors that the economic benefits outweigh the potential harms.
The threat to take an annual £18M boost to the local economy elsewhere may yet be influential.
A Stobart spokesman is quoted as saying that it will disclose "the significant very special circumstances" that support the development.
