Man City Star-Turned-Developer Is In Good Kompany
Belgian international and Manchester City FC captain Vincent Kompany has unveilled plans for a mixed residential and commercial scheme in Ancoats.
Kompany is the latest Manchester footballer to follow Manchester United Class of 92 stars Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs into property development. Kompany will be hoping for a smoother ride than Neville and Giggs have had promoting the controversial £200M St Michaels project.
M4nchester Two, the development vehicle he created with Nathan Ezair, has applied for permission to build 75 apartments and 4K SF of office space on the Ancoats site, the Architects' Journal reports.
The relatively large office element confirms Ancoats' growing reputation as a potential spill-over office location coping with excess demand from the tighly constrained Manchester Northern Quarter.
Dutch-based architects Mecanoo designed the latest proposal. Last year the firm reduced the size of its Manchester office saying the number of its active projects in the region had diminished.
