Will Skyscrapers Make The Great Northern Great Again?

Trilogy's greenery-filled plans for the Great Northern

Trilogy, co-owners of Manchester's Great Northern Goods Warehouse, are considering plans to build a cluster of residential towers on the site now occupied by the Odeon Cinema.

Early consultations have already begun with local residents, and Manchester City Council are encouraging ambitious development, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Trilogy acquired the site in 2013 in partnership with Hong Kong-based Peterson Group.

The cinema lease expires in 2021 and talks about its future are already in progress.

“We’re in dialogue. What height would be appropriate? 21 storeys, or as high as the Beetham Tower? We’re already listening. We could build a cluster of towers but there’s issues of viability, all options are on the table," Trilogy Chief Executive Robert Wolstenholme is reported as saying.

The Great Northern consultation comes as Manchester digests the latest rash of skyscraper plans, including a 51-storey tower proposed by Renaker for the Great Jackson Street area.
