Knott Mill, The 230K SF Tech And Creative Startup Hub?

Knott Mill has had an iffy couple of decades: the Manchester city centre district is perpetually on the brink of exciting redevelopment, without ever quite getting there. Now a new regeneration strategy promises up to 230K SF of new commercial floorspace aimed at tech and creative startups.

The cluster of streets in the shadow of Manchester Deansgate Station includes Little Peter Street, Hewitt Street, Commercial Street, Constance Street and Jordan Street.

A report to be discussed by Manchester City Council's ruling executive suggests four office development sites and a hotel site, and indicates that there will also be around 150K SF of new residential development on a single site.

"The combination of new commercial development and additional new homes will re-energise this distinctive, mixed-used district in the heart of the city centre," the report said. "New commercial development could potentially accommodate up to 750 new jobs, creating a broad range of employment opportunities within micro and small businesses, particularly in the creative, digital and professional services sectors."

Knott Mill sits next to both the First Street and Great Jackson Street regeneration areas.
