Amazon's Manchester High Street Debut
Amazon is debuting a new high street concept in Manchester, and it could change the way physical retail works.
The pop-up store at St Mary’s Gate is intended as a shop-window for up-and-coming brands who would otherwise be confined to the online world.
The Clicks and Mortar store is intended to help them grow by giving customers a chance to try out new products from scooters to skincare brands, the Manchester Evening News reported.
The pilot is being backed by Enterprise Nation, which supports small businesses, and will contribute to the government’s high street revival strategy.
Ten UK stores are planned, of which Manchester’s is the first.
Amazon said that small businesses were already one of their most important user groups and that the Clicks and Mortar experiment offered a chance to experience physical retail.
The scheme also involves apprenticeships and efforts to increase small business exports.
