The Ginormous 24-Hour Concrete Pour
What could be cooler than taking 175 concrete trucks, a crew of 300 workers, and spending 24 hours pouring 12,000 cubic yards of concrete into a big hole in the ground, to go with 2,000 tons of reinforcing steel? Nothing. (At least to those of us who had a fleet of Tonkas once upon a time.) Coastal Construction Group recently undertook the big pour, which it says represented one of the largest continuous foundation mat pours in South Florida history. Eventually, the 60-story Porsche Design Tower Miami will rise on the site.
