Indiana-based singer-songwriter Jay Filson recently won The SoBro’s first artist-in-residence competition, which the property's developer, Magellan Development Group, called "The SoBro Star." Filson will move to Nashville to pursue his music while living rent-free at The SoBro for a year, though as part of the deal he will perform and offer classes for the other residents.

The event featured an “American Idol”-style final round and was attended by more than 100 residents and guests. It wrapped up a monthlong search as part of Magellan Development’s artist-in-residence program.

The SoBro is the first property in Nashville for the Chicago-based Magellan, which has developed properties in Chicago, Minneapolis and Miami. The company also recently held an artist-in-residence contest at Exhibit on Superior, a property it developed in Chicago.
