Dow Industrials, S&P 500 Open With Little Change Pending Friday’s Jobs Report
As investors await Friday’s monthly jobs report for July, US stocks held pretty steady, though oil prices rose slightly.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed four points, less than 0.1%, to 18,317 when the markets opened this morning—a small but noteworthy rise considering Tuesday Dow industrials fell by 1.4% for the seventh straight session. The S&P 500 was up less than 0.1% as well, as was the Nasdaq Composite, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Though the decline in oil prices continues to cause concern—energy shares fell 2.4% this week in the S&P 500—oil prices rose this morning by 0.9% to $39.87 a barrel. Investors will continue to watch the economy closely following the jobs report coming this week. [WSJ]
