DALLAS: Are We Overbuilding Data Centers?
When you look outside the top six markets, there's not a lot of data center product overall. But in the hot markets, it could be overbuilt already, say the experts at Bisnow's Data Center Investment Conference and Expo (DICE) West at the Ritz-Carlton in Dallas on Wednesday. Some 250 came from as far as California and Philadelphia to hear experts like Compass Datacenters CEO Chris Crosby (right, with Digital Realty Trust VP Andrew Schaap and Ramp Rate CEO Tony Greenberg). Chris says he's starting to see an oversupply in some markets, despite being a relatively young industry segment. That oversupply happens when the big brokerages see a market with no product, then everyone launches at the same time.
