Chart of the Week: As Skyscrapers Rise, So Do Glass Prices
As skyscrapers spring up and define the skylines of cities across the US, glass prices have risen as well. According to the Wall Street Journal and JLL, curtain-wall prices have risen more than 30% in the last 18 months and glass makers, previously struggling to find any business, are now struggling to keep up with the new demand. And while year-to-date completions (46M SF) are actually below historical norms, 2016’s huge boost in construction demand will put a further strain on glass supplies.
