For D.C. Sales Director Brad Amron, Success Comes From Being In Good Company
The Washington, D.C., commercial real estate market is at a critical juncture. Mayor Muriel Bowser has called for federal employees to return in-person to their offices, or for those spaces to be transformed to create more housing options for the area’s residents.
As local CRE professionals wait to see how this pivotal time will play out, Bisnow D.C. Sales Director Brad Amron is working to connect clients with up-to-date information about the D.C. market and products that will help them do more business, regardless of the outcome.
Bisnow sat down with Amron to discuss his transition to CRE sales, successful marketing approaches for the D.C. region and the joys of working with like-minded people who are enthusiastic about coming up with unique ways to enhance the client experience.
Bisnow: Where do you see the D.C. market heading in the next year? What trends are you the most excited about?
Amron: Even though many D.C. residents are still working from home, owners, developers and broker representatives are recognizing that we offer them the right service to get them back in the room to market their efforts. Developers in particular are eager about Bisnow’s services, even more now than in the past.
Bisnow’s D.C. team doesn’t do one-off events. Instead, we’re consultants in the space and are always finding new ways to assist our clients. I'm really excited about the business that Bisnow is doing with a lot of our owners and developers in the D.C. market and about a new initiative that the D.C. team came up with together.
On the production side, we are now reaching not only the owners and developers, but the speakers of these firms that were invited to speak on a panel. We’re letting them know “Hey, are you aware of these marketing opportunities that Bisnow has where we can amplify your speaking spot and highlight your brand?” From there we connect them to Bisnow’s event production team so they can learn more.
Bisnow: What marketing approaches are driving deals and creating more business?
Amron: On the renewal side, the businesses that are doing both digital and live events with Bisnow do so because they see that one is amplifying the other. The live events are amplifying their brand on the digital side of marketing, along with content creation that's amplifying their speakers on a panel.
We want a customer who wants to continue buying what we offer because it works for them, and for them to remain our customer year in and year out. It takes the right customer to understand that Bisnow is unique from our competitors. I think offering live events and digital marketing, two things that most companies can't put together in the right way, is how Bisnow differentiates our portfolio and what helps the customers trust us enough to want to make the purchase.
Bisnow: What inspired you to pursue a career at Bisnow?
Amron: I've worked in sales for my entire career, on the wholesale distribution side. However, the passion at Bisnow is what inspired me to leave the comfort of that specialty and pursue CRE.
Even though I only knew Will Friend for a short amount of time, he changed my life. I was kind of on the fence about coming to Bisnow because leaving an industry you're comfortable in for 20 years and starting in a brand-new industry can be difficult. But Will’s passion and his belief that he had the right product was inspiring to me.
When I met Bisnow Vice President of Sales Mike Ponticelli, I remember going home with a smile on my face thinking that people are happy to work there. Here was a place where people really loved what they did, and I was excited to be a part of that.
Bisnow: What do you like most about your role at Bisnow?
Amron: On the sales management side, I love the mentorship and the training opportunities that I get to provide in my role. It has been rewarding to help my team succeed and watch them grow. I also enjoy getting on calls with new clients, giving my pitch to our customer base and selling products. When the people around you are happy, everybody's happy.
Bisnow: What makes you unique?
Amron: I'm good at juggling a bunch of different things; drinking from a firehose is a strength of mine. It certainly has its tough moments, but I think I'm unique in that I can manage multiple things going on without stressing too much.
I think it’s also hard to not have an ego as a salesperson and to make sure that you're always highlighting your team. This is really important, not just in sales development but in general. It's not about you, it's about your team.
Bisnow: What is one life goal you want to accomplish?
Amron: Professionally, I want to be able to build bench players underneath. As a director, you should train people under you, so if somebody is out of the office or has to suddenly leave early, business can still function. I always want to make sure that the business, and in turn, the team, is always set up for success.
