HSBC Weighs HQ Relocation
HSBC announced today it was considering a relocation of its HQ from London. The British bank comes amid new and imminent regulations that have rattled the nerves of executives, shareholders and analysts. HSBC, which is the world's third largest bank by assets, generates the bulk of its revenue in Asia and was founded in 1865 in Hong Kong as Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation. Its HQ moved to London in 1993. British political leaders have recently suggested that taxing bank revenues could help finance public projects. And come 2019, banks there will have to split up retail and investment banking as a hedge against another financial crisis.
