Turkey's New Consulate Will Add A Striking Tower To The New York Skyline
Construction will soon begin on a striking, 32-story building in New York's Midtown East for the Republic of Turkey’s new consulate tower. The building, known as the Turkevi Center, will house Turkey’s mission, consulate and residences within its 200k SF.
Perkins Eastman is designing the tower, located at 821 United Nations Plaza. The curved sweep of the upper floors was inspired by the Turkish crescent, and construction will begin later this year, Curbed reports. The tower is expected to debut in 2018.
The building will also feature passport and visa branch offices, as well as a fitness center, an auditorium, a prayer room, underground parking and various conference rooms. Turkey bought the site, 342 East 46th St, for $5.1M back in 2011. [Curbed]
