Walmart Is Closing 154 Stores In The US, Shuts Down Smaller Store Concept
Walmart is closing 269 of its stores, including 154 locations in the US. Among the closures, the retail giant is shutting down all of its 102 Walmart Express stores, the pilot project for the smaller format store the retailer launched in 2011.
Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillon says the company wants to go big by focus on strengthening its biggest format stores (Walmart Supercenters), building the e-commerce business, and expanding pickup services for customers. In addition to the closing, in the coming fiscal year, the retail giant will open 135 to 155 stores in the US, as well as 300 stores worldwide. [CoStar]
