Apple To Add Corporate Campus, Hire 20,000 Workers, Expand Data Center Operations
Less than a year after Apple completed its massive spaceship campus in Cupertino, it is planning for another campus in a new location. Apple announced Wednesday it will invest $30B in capital expenditures in the U.S. over the next five years to create 20,000 jobs at existing campuses and at a new campus, the location of which will be announced later in the year.
The tech giant’s expansion falls on the heels of Amazon looking for a second headquarters and Google’s plans for a 6M SF to 8M SF campus in downtown San Jose that will accommodate up to 20,000 workers.

Apple also said it will spend $10B toward data centers. It has already invested billions in data centers and co-located facilities in seven states, including North Carolina, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and a new project in Iowa. It broke ground on a new data center facility in Reno Wednesday.
The company’s investment plans include an increase in funding for advanced manufacturing to $5B from $1B to support American manufacturers. It currently backs manufacturing projects in Kentucky and rural Texas.
Apple employs 84,000 people in the U.S., and the tech giant estimates it will contribute $350B to the U.S. economy over the next five years.
