Construction Labor Shortage Continues: Only 17 States Added New Jobs In March
Developers across the country are struggling with ongoing construction labor shortages, and the situation did not improve in March.
The Associated General Contractors of America said from February to March only 17 states added new construction jobs, down from 39 states between January and February, Construction Dive reports. A total of 30 states lost construction jobs within the same period. Illinois saw the biggest decrease in construction labor with 7,100 jobs lost, while Alaska lost the largest percentage at 4.9%.
AGC chief economist Ken Simonson said mild weather in February pushed developers to hire earlier in the year. He also said that hiring explains much of March's weakness.
