$1.8B Construction: Facebook Selects Albuquerque For New Data Center

The bidding war is over and Albuquerque, NM, is the winner—PNM Resources has announced Facebook’s selection of a development site just outside the city.

The $1.8B data center will be 100% powered by clean and renewable energy and its construction is expected to create 300 temporary construction jobs while the center itself creates 50 permanent jobs, Commercial Property Executive reports. Experts says the structure will be among the most advanced and energy-efficient data centers in the world.

Fortis Construction is scheduled to break ground on the 50-acre complex in October. It’s expected to be ready in late 2008. [CPE]
