How T5 Was Seduced By Portland
T5 Data Centers hits Oregon with not just one, but two data centers. (One is already leased before completion.) Besides the obvious fact that servers love riding on cable cars, what lured them there?
T5's Aaron Wangenheim tells us the two-building colocation facility, called T5@Portland, will include one that's been pre-leased with an unnamed Fortune 100 company and is already under construction. The other, a 110k SF, 9 MW data center will deliver by next summer totally on spec. He'd fond of the “great infrastructure” in place (including landing stations for transpacific fiber lines) and a cooler climate for more efficient cooling. (Next time you have to wear a sweater in the summer, just remember all the Netflix that helps stream.)
Portland also offers up great local workforce talent, Aaron says—part of the Silicon Rim that stretches from California to Washington: “We see demand coming both from California as well as national users looking for the right place to locate their Western US data centers.”
