Following Massive Document Leak, World’s Largest Fund Sees Protests Over Tax Havens
Norwegian parties and organizations are planning protests outside the parliament in Oslo to pressure the country’s $850B wealth fund to dump its investments in tax havens after the Panama Papers revealed the extent of tax evasion.
More than 35 groups are lending their support to the demonstration, which follows calls last week for the fund to exit holdings in tax havens, Bloomberg reports.
But will the outrage over elite tax havens have tangible effects? It already has. Iceland’s Prime Minister stepped down last week after the leaked documents revealed both he and his wife have offshore accounts. [Bloomberg]
