REITs Outperform The Market In May
REITs blew past the broader market in May as fundamentals stay strong and capital keeps on flowing.
“You really had a pretty solid sector-by-sector modest uptick for the month across the board,” says Jeffrey Langbaum, Bloomberg Intelligence’s senior REIT analyst. And the numbers agree with him—the FTSE/NAREIT All REIT Index posted total returns of 2.3% in May while the S&P 500 Index only rose 1.8%, REIT.com reports.
The sector’s continued success indicates investors aren’t afraid any upcoming interest rate hike will drastically hurt REITs. Instead, it seems experts are more worried that supply issues could hurt health care REITs and multifamily REITs. [REIT]
