Trump May Tap CKE Restaurants CEO Andy Puzder For Labor Secretary
Donald Trump is expected to name CKE Restaurants Holdings CEO Andy Puzder as his labor secretary, which could result in fewer labor market regulations.
CKE is the parent company of fast-food chains Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, and Puzder has long been calling for fewer regulations in the restaurant industry, the Wall Street Journal reports. In particular, Puzder is against raising the minimum wage any higher than $9 an hour—a stance worth noting since many state officials are moving in favor of increased labor wages, including two of the country's most populated areas, California and New York, which passed bills this year to incrementally push minimum wage up to $15.
Experts say Puzder will likely call for tax cuts instead of implementing new regulations, since he asserts that regulations stunt job growth and hurt the franchising model. [WSJ]
