Airbnb Is Turning To New Yorkers To Help Fight Its Legal Battles
Airbnb is hoping to mobilize 46,000 New York hosts to combat a new law that, if enacted, would fine NY Airbnb hosts up to $7,500 if they advertise short-term listings in unoccupied apartments. The goal is to prevent Gov. Andrew Cuomo from signing the law.
As shared-economy companies, such as Airbnb and Uber, continue to expand globally, they’re increasingly facing pushback from regulators and traditional companies such as hoteliers and the taxi industry, Bloomberg reports.
In other news, the home-sharing behemoth has officially raised $850M in a new round of funding, raising it to a $30B valuation, according to CNBC. Google Capital & Tech and Crossover Ventures were among the largest investors. [Bloomberg]
