Airbnb To Win Legal Battle Against S.F. Officials?
Many attorneys are predicting San Francisco will lose its legal battle against Airbnb.
On Monday, Airbnb filed a suit against its hometown stating that S.F. is illegally using the company to help enforce housing law regulations.
Currently, people can rent out their apartments as long as they’re registered with the city, but enforcing registration has been tricky. S.F.'s Board of Supervisors recently passed a law restricting websites like Airbnb from allowing unregistered homes to be listed. The home-sharing site now faces fines up to $1k per day for unregistered listings.
But many attorneys claim the new restrictions won’t hold. “Websites like Airbnb have immensely broad protections against attempts to hold them liable for the actions of their users,” Bloomberg reports. [Bloomberg]
