Goldman Sachs: Once You Go Airbnb You Won't Go Back (To Hotels)
Once you go Airbnb, you don't go back...to hotels, that is. Once travelers try Airbnb their preference for hotels vs. homesharing drops from 79% to 40%, according to a recent Goldman Sachs study.
"We find it interesting that people 'do a 180' in their preferences once they use P2P lodging," says managing director Steven Kent, who conducted the survey.
The 2,000-consumer survey also shows that 75% of those between 25-34 tried so-called peer-to-peer lodging options in 2015. 64% between 35-44 followed suit, meaning Airbnb is branching out beyond cash-strapped Millennials. There's still hope for hotels, though. Above age 44, homesharing use didn't break 30%. [Bloomberg]
