Multimillion Dollar Effort Transforms Old Hotel: A Sign Of Things To Come In The Capital?
Property owner LaSalle Hotel Properties and hotel manager Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants have transformed the former Hotel Helix into a new hotel, complete with a new look.
After a multimillion-dollar renovation, the new Mason & Rook hotel at 1430 Rhode Island Ave NW is open. Kimpton and LaSalle declined to put a specific price tag on the renovations, the Washington Business Journal reports.
Features of the new hotel include a ballroom—complete with huge skylights—a pre-function space, and an expansion of the lobby’s living room space. A new bar and restaurant known as Radiator is on the site, featuring an outdoor patio, and the renovations also included the addition of a rooftop lounge with a small pool. Additionally, standard rooms and suites have been expanded to give guests a little more elbow room.
As DC continues to march through a hotel boom time, we can expect to see more older hotels in the area undergo cosmetic surgery to keep pace with the new kids on the block. Late last year, the Fairmont Hotel in the West End kicked off a $27M reno project, its first since 2002. [WBJ]
