Former Marshall Field's Warehouse Takes Huge Step Forward With Supermarket Opening
When we visited The Fields last December, developer Paul Fishbein showed us glimpses of how the 1.5M SF former Marshall Field's warehouse at Pulaski Road and Diversey Avenue would look. Yesterday, The Fields passed a milestone with the opening of a 70k SF Cermak Fresh Market.
Cermak is only the first of several business that will eventually call The Fields home. Cushman & Wakefield, which handles leasing, believes it could rival the Merchandise Mart and 600 W Chicago as adaptive reuse projects, Curbed reports. Like those two properties, The Fields boasts large floor plates and high ceilings that tech firms find irresistible. And although The Fields is a haul from the Blue Line, Merit Partners is establishing a shuttle service to ferry workers to and from the property.
But the Fields has advantages the Mart and 600 W Chicago lack, like 150k SF of planned residential lofts. Those renters will have Cermak and other retailers steps away—which is why we call The Fields Chicago's most ambitious adaptive reuse project. [Curbed]
