Diagonal Elevators for Multifamily?
Who says towers can only go up and down? With elevator pro ThyssenKrupp’s coming cable-free elevator, multiple cars could run in the same shaft. The kicker: They’ll also be able to run diagonally and sideways, The Wall Street Journal reports. The magnetic levitation technology, called Multi with a prototype expected in ’16, opens the door for even taller towers and buildings with shapes we haven’t even dreamed of. We could see the appeal for the increasing number of high-density micro unit projects, perhaps with several neighboring buildings sharing elevators. And it's perfect for adaptive reuse, allowing efficient travel across even the wonkiest of building designs.
