Foreign Investments In Multifamily May Be On The Decline
US real estate has been a hot target for international investment, and foreign investors continue to focus on US apartments even as the industry nears its peak.
Experts project apartment investments will barely beat 2015 levels and the industry may be reaching its plateau. So far this year, foreign buyers have nabbed $5.1B in apartment buildings—7.1% of the $72.3B in total apartment assets overall investors have bought this year. National Real Estate Investor reports this activity pales in comparison to last year’s $19.6B in apartment properties foreign investors purchased during the entire year.
“In an environment that is regarded both as the safest and most secure in the world, with a strong currency and the best opportunity for capital appreciation, the US is the safest harbor,” AFIRE CEO James Fetgatter says. [NREI]
