Failed golf courses that used to grace many planned communities years ago are not just being gobbled up by homebuilders, the green is also being redeveloped into new amenities to match shifting trends.
Trail networks, education centers and gardens are a few of the new favored amenities, which developers said are popular in part because they facilitate interaction between residents, Construction Dive reports. Experts said outdoor amenities, like hiking trails, are especially popular because many people want to spend more time outside after relying on technology both at work and at home.
One Texas project, developed by Meridiana, transformed a former golf course into a solar observatory, including several learning labs, while another development offers a 7.4-acre farm. Whether it is natural amenities, educational amenities or traditional amenities, experts said the key is catering to local tastes and making residents comfortable and engaged.
