Bisnow Scoop: Google Continues Southeast Expansion
Google could be expanding its presence in Midtown. For what, though, remains a mystery. Sources tell us Google is in talks for 30k to 50k SF in Midtown Atlanta, with its search centered on either 201 17th St or 217 17th St office towers at Atlantic Station. This would be on top of what Alphabet already uses at Ten 10th St in Midtown, where it renewed and expanded last year for more than 25k SF, sources say. The deal is being run by CBRE's California office, but officials with CBRE—who also lease the two Atlantic Station towers for CBRE Investors and KBS REIT III, which purchased 201 17th St last year—declined to comment.
Google has been on an expansion march in Metro Atlanta in recent months. Aside from the Millennium in Midtown renewal, the firm announced plans to expand its Google Fiber presence to the metro area—one of the first cities to experience its rollout. It also opened a more than 1M SF data center repair facility at Fairburn Logistics Center, and doubled its data center presence in Lithia Springs.
