Sochi and Real Estate
10 Chicago Blackhawks (that's NHL, if you don't believe in winter sports) came to the Winter Games. Seven have reached the hockey semifinals. Did you know they have real estate connections?
The Hawks are owned by Wirtz Corp, and one of the company’s subsidiaries manages luxury apartments and works on investment and redevelopment projects in the Chicago area. Canada, the winner, will play Sweden (featuring the Hawks’ Swedish House Mafia—Hjalmarrson, Oduya, and Kruger). Patrick Kane is the lone US Hawk, with Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews, above, and Duncan Keith repping our friends to the north.
Chicago multifamily ties to the Olympics go even further. M&R Development and RMK Management prez Toni Rossi Sr. (left) snapped this Sochi pic with good friend and Russian hockey legend Vladislav Tretiak. Considered to be the best goalie of all time by many (he played against the Miracle On Ice team in Lake Placid), Vlad lit the torch for Russia at the opening ceremony. And he served as Hawks goaltender coach for a number of years. Tony's been on the board of USA Hockey for the past 30 years, overseeing world championship and Olympic teams for the past 12 years.
