Urban Compass Causes Stir With High-Profile Hire
Urban Compass made waves last week with news of a DC expansion. Now, it's shaking up the residential brokerage world back in its hometown of NYC: Ori Allon's techy brokerage has hired Kyle Blackmon away from Brown Harris Stevens in what The Real Deal calls the biggest poach from that firm in a decade. And BHS President Hal Wilkie didn't take the news well.
"Kyle has made the decision that the equity proposition offered to him trumps a singular focus on brokerage," Wilkie said in a statement. A subsequent memo pegged that that equity is pegged to "the success of Urban Compass’ founders implementing their vision of selling their company for substantially more than many industry experts believe is possible."
BHS named Blackmon its top broker in 2012. He brokered the record-breaking $88M sale of Citigroup head Sanford Weil's 15 Central Park West penthouse to Russian fertilizer magnate Dmitry Rybolovlev.
