Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch Can Now Be Yours
Neverland Ranch, the notorious Santa Barbara Xanadu of late pop megastar Michael Jackson, is on the market for $100M. Spread over nearly 2.7K acres in Santa Ynez Valley, the estate has been named Sycamore Valley Ranch according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news. The King of Pop bought the property in 1988 around the considerable peak of his career.
Jackson transformed the grounds into a zoo and amusement park befitting its name, cribbed from Peter Pan. He also welcomed a parade of young children onto the property until child molestation accusations in the early '90s set the tabloid world on fire and irrevocably damaged Jackson's image. He kept his distance from Neverland after police searched it during that investigation. Thomas Barrack's Colony Capital acquired the property during the housing crisis. Jackson died in 2009, at 50 years old, of cardiac arrest and acute drug intoxication.
