Preliminary Renderings Released for Atlanta United FC Complex
Preliminary renderings were released for Atlanta United FC’s $30M training facility following Tuesday’s 4-3 vote in favor of the plan by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. DeKalb County will provide nearly 41 acres of county-owned land near Kensington Road and Memorial Drive via ground lease to Decide DeKalb, the county’s economic development agency. The club will build a corporate HQ between 20k and 25k SF, three outdoor practice fields and a 3,500-seat outdoor stadium, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. “We are excited to have Atlanta United FC as the cornerstone of our new ‘Downtown DeKalb’ and as the catalyst for revitalization of the Memorial Drive corridor,” said DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May. DeKalb will be in charge of the demolition of existing buildings on-site and is entitled to 15% of net revenue derived from naming rights and revenue-generating branded events. At the conclusion of the 30-year lease, including any potential extensions, ownership of all assets will revert back to DeKalb County. Atlanta United will begin play in 2017 to become the 22nd franchise in Major League Soccer. [ABC]
