LA & SEATTLE: Don't Touch That Ceiling
In the traditional vs. creative office debate, the worst thing you can do in a Class-A tower is rip out your ceiling tiles, according to EVOQ Properties CEO Martin Caverly, who spoke at Bisnow's Evolution of Downtown Summit last week. Eventually, creative tenants mature and "they want to get away from the guy with the skateboard," he says. The firm is currently transforming LA's Alameda Square into a fashion innovation campus, and if you draw a circle around the project, there are 17 well-known brands selling everything from $50 t-shirts to $500 jeans. (To save money, we'll just buy a second shirt and wrap it around our waist.)
We know that a big concern for property management is how building ops are changing in wake of the creative office revolution (especially in regards to staffing and systems). So here's an interesting tidbit over 200 heard this week at our Seattle Creative Office Summit: These days, 30% of the workforce identifies as mobile workers, either as part of the creative class or as an employee working remotely. (The other 70% of the workforce just realized why the line is always so short in the cafeteria.) Has this already impacted how things are done at your building? Let us know.
